Our Story

The idea for Autistic Haven was born from a need for escapism. My Autistic son had been badly bullied on the estate where we live and then refused to play out. I know other parents who are in need of somewhere safe to escape to.

I decided the solution would be to find a campsite to pitch our caravan for the whole season, so we could find solace at the weekends and holidays to restore his freedom and provide the chance for new friendships. I was unsuccessful in finding anything suitable.

During Covid my idea developed. I thought wouldn’t it be great to have a site that was fully fenced with an abundance of play equipment so nobody had to wait a turn, within central sight of all the caravans. That was tailored to the needs of the whole family inclusive of Autistic individuals. To not feel judged if my son was having a meltdown.

To create an Autistic community giving parents and children the chance to connect and socialise with others, and for families to spend quality time together.

Raising an Autistic child is tough, in my experience getting the right support is challenging and exhausting. My other 4 children have often been overlooked. To be able to come into a space where everyone knows what you are going through and that you and your child will be accepted would be exceptional.

I am on a mission to advocate that caravanning with your Autistic child is so much easier than you first thought, that the benefits far outweigh the fears, that the freedom and escapism a caravan provides is life-changing…

… now wouldn’t it be amazing to create the best and only exclusively Autistic caravan park in the UK?
